The Tin Can Island Port of the Nigerian Ports Authority, has presented a N500,000 cheque, plaque, school bags and umbrellas to both teachers and students of the Lagos State Model College, Kankon, in Badagry.

This is part of the NPA reach out plan to host communities under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Initiative programme.

A major reason for the NPA initiative, according to Buba Jubril, Port Manager of Tin Can Island Port Complex, (represented by Mrs. Hauwa Usman, Principal Manager, Corporate Communications), is to encourage and appreciate the school whose student Josephine Krisliwedo Hunpe, won the NPA’s Quiz competition which was held to commemorate the 2022 World Maritime Day celebration.

The Lagos State Model College Kankon, Badagry, was one of the few schools chosen for coming first amongst 3,000 schools which participated in the competition. This would explain why Buba Jubril intimated that the gesture was also in order to encourage other students of the same school to strive to be like their illustrious colleague, Josephine, in order to ensure the school stays the best among other good schools.

Ibitoye Olusegun,  Principal of the school  commended the Port Manager and his management team for the  gesture, adding that he never imagined any organisation remembering them in the remote village of Kankon in Badagry where the school is located.

In noting that the gifts are a big motivation, the elated principal said they would help encourage his students and make them look back, in the future, and see this moment as a turning point in their life as it helped them imbibe the spirit of giving.
